My Very First Stitch Fix Review

After seeing so many wonderful blog posts and hearing my friends rave about their Stitch Fix experiences I decided to give it a try. I loved it! The pieces that my stylist Hannah selected for me were just what I needed to add my wardrobe.

What is Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix is a styling service that selects and sends five items to you based on your style profile and Pinterest style boards. When you sign up for the service you fill out a style profile with your preferred styles, sizes, and links to your Pinterest board. Your stylist uses this information to select five items, both clothing and accessories, and sends them your way. You then get to try on your new clothes in the comfort of your own home. Your stylist also includes a note on your items and style cards with different ways to style your pieces. You select what you would like to keep and send back what you don't want to keep in the prepaid envelope. A $20.00 styling fee is charged when your items are sent to you. If you keep any of the items the $20.00 styling fee is applied towards your first item. If you want to keep all five items you receive a 25% discount.

August Stitch Fix Review

For this fix I asked my stylist for Zooey Deschanel type items. Think cute dresses and fun prints. I also asked if I could possibly get a knee length denim skirt, because for some reason those are impossible to find. My stylist found just the right pieces that for me were Zooey Deschanel style. Sadly she was unable to find a denim skirt for me, but sent me some cute skinny jeans instead.

#1 Market and Spruce Colbri Floral Print Sleeveless Top, $44.00

When I first pulled this out of my box I wasn't sure I would like it. It was orange and normally I don't wear orange, but when I put it on I was pleasantly surprised. It was just loose enough and I liked that it was longer in the back.  I've paired this top with item number two...

#2 Kensie Jeans Johnny Regular Length Skinny Jeans, $88.00

I love a good dark wash jean and these are very dark, almost black. They had a good amount of stretch which is good. They were just a wee bit tight, but I felt that I could fit into them comfortably if I just worked out a little bit.

#3 Pomelo Brook Dot Print Tie - Waist Top, $54.00

I love this top! I had seen it on another Stitch Fix review so I was very excited when I found it in my box.  It is black and white polka dots so it is very versatile. I can see myself pairing this with either a cardigan or a blazer to transition this top for fall.

#4 Pixley Karolina Spaghetti Strap Polka Dot Dress, $68.00

This dress fit the definition of Zooey Deschanel style. I loved it as soon as I pulled it out of the box. It has a lot of details that made it great. It is made of a great soft material that flows perfectly and has a panel of elastic in the back that makes it very comfortable. I normally don't wear spaghetti straps, but I knew I would be wearing the dress with a cardigan. I have paired it with one of my own cardigans and necklace.

#5 Octavia Henry Birds on Branch Infinity Scarf, $28.00

This was the first thing that I pulled out of my box. I am obsessed with birds (see the birds on the my wall in the pictures above) so I knew that this Fix was going to be great when I saw this scarf. I can see myself pairing this with many of my dresses and cardigans.

The winners were...all five! I didn't want to send anything back so I kept all five items and got a 25% discount. I signed up for bimonthly fixes so I can't wait for my next box of goodies!

In a world filled with predictable dystopia after predictable dystopia, "Starbird Murphy and the World Outside" by Karen Finneyfrock was a nice refreshing change. The story is told from Starbird's point of view and it is a very interesting one. Starbird a teenage girl who grew up on Free Family commune farm in rural Washington state. She has never experienced the things you would expect a normal teenage girl to do, like use a cell phone or the internet or even touch money.

Starbird's life is turned upside down when she receives her Calling to take a job as a waitress at the Free Family's cafe in Seattle. There she finds out that life on the outside isn't the horrible place she feared and that the Free Family may not be the harmonious community she had believed in her entire life.

This is one of my favorite books that I have read this year. It was very original and the main character, Starbird, was very interesting to get to know. I haven't read a realisitic YA book in quite a while and now I am very glad that I made the leap. While I do love fantasy and science fiction, it was nice to break out of my routine and read something that was truly entertaining and though provoking.

Star rating: 5/5 stars!

In knitting and crafting news...

I have started a new cowl that I am pretty excited about. It is the Blackberry Bramble pattern by Thea Colman. It is my foray into the world of color work. While I have done some simple stripes color work with the several Stephen West shawl's I have made, I have not done much with stranded color work. I did 7 inches on the plain stockinette section yesterday and I am excited to get the fun color work!

In sewing news I have almost finished the Washi dress by Made by Rae. Pictures to come!

Lifely duties or lack thereof

I have to admit my knitting has been taking a backseat to my reading lately. I just finished Icons by Margaret Stohl and I have to admit that I have been neglecting my normal lifely duties to read it.

I was expecting it to be a run of the mill dystopia, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was intriguing enough to keep me up past my bed time. In this dystopia, Earth is invaded and Icons are placed in 13 cities across the world. The Icons can make all electrical impulses cease, including human hearts. The invaders of the Earth, The Lords, have enslaved the population to live in The Projects and to do their bidding. Sixteen years later we find Dol, her best friend Ro, and their caretaker the Padre happily living in the countryside away from the Icons and The Projects. On Dol's birthday her whole world changes when Ro and Dol are taken by the Sympas, the enforcers of The Lords, and taken to a secret facility to see the Ambassador. It is there they learn there true identities and that they are not only in their secrets.

In knitting news I am slowly working on the San Mateo Cowl. I love cowls, but for some reason my knitting mojo has been a little Ehhhhh lately. I have a due date of June 30th for Camp Loopy, but I am not sure if I am going to make my deadline.

In happy news I am attending the American Library Association annual conference in Chicago next week! I am looking forward to seeing what is new and exciting in YA books and programs. I'll update on what new YA books are going to be hot for Fall!

Thanks Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for my signed copy of the book (I never win contests, this was awesome)!
